Last weekend, three O'Connell choral students traveled to Longwood University for the Virginia Music Educators Senior Honors Choir Auditions. Students performed the piece "I Attempt from Love's Sickness" for two adjudicators and then had to sight read eight measures of music. They received 30 seconds to study the example and then perform what is on the page. Over 640 seniors from all over Virginia auditioned.
"We are so proud of seniors Ellie Hart, CJ Hodges and Grace Rafferty for their hard work," said O'Connell choral director Kyra Klontz.
Special congratulations to Grace, who was one of 16 students selected for her voice part. She will travel to Hot Springs, Va. on Nov. 21 and will spend a weekend rehearsing six pieces. The weekend culminates with a performance at the VMEA Conference at the Omni Homestead under the direction of renowned conductor, André Thomas!
