Over the weekend of March 20, current and former student-athletes enjoyed success as they swam in major national championships.
O’Connell alumna Maddie Donohoe ‘19 helped her University of Virginia women’s swim team to their first ever NCAA Division 1 Women’s Swimming & Diving National Championship. Maddie placed 15th in the 500 freestyle and 11th in the 1650 freestyle and became a 2x Honorable Mention All-American in both events. Congratulations to Maddie and UVA!
At the same time, two O’Connell seniors made a splash at the NCSA Spring Junior Nationals Championships meet in Orlando, Fla. Paige Hall ‘21 placed fourth in the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, and 200 freestyle; seventh in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley; and eighth in the 50 backstroke. Tyler Lentine ‘21 placed seventh in the 200 backstroke, 100 backstroke, and 400 medley relay. Both swimmers helped their team, Machine Aquatics, to a ninth place finish at the meet.
Congratulations to both Paige (committed to Ohio State University) and Tyler (University of Cincinnati), who will continue their swimming careers at the collegiate level next year!
