Even in the snow, our school counseling team was able to be represented at several recent events that took place in honor of next week's National School Counseling Week:
On Wednesday, school counselor Joe Natalicchio represented Bishop O'Connell at a briefing on Capitol Hill. The briefing was sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, American Federation of Teachers , and National Education Association. The National School Counselor of the year, Katherine Pastor, along with two finalists and Ms. Pastor's superintendent, presented "From Kindergarten through Graduation: The Role of the School Counselor in College and Career Readiness." The presentation focused on the critical role school counselors play at all grade levels to ensure students complete high school college and career ready.
Our dean of student services, Erin O'Malley, who serves on the selection committee for the national school counselor of the year, was invited to the White House on Thursday for a ceremony hosted by the first lady, Michelle Obama. Mrs. Obama honored the school counselor of the year and the finalists from across the nation.
Be sure to say "Happy National School Counseling Week" next time you see your school counselor!
