The Global Studies Program at Bishop O'Connell welcomed Gary Andres as their guest speaker on Nov. 11.
Andres is the staff director for the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He previously worked for the lobbying firm Dutko World Wide, in the area public policy and research. Andres served as deputy assistant for legislative affairs to President George H.W. Bush and was an adviser to President George W. Bush's transition team.
He discussed the role of the legislative branch in the American democracy, and shared his thoughts on the current political climate on Capitol Hill. Students were interested in his comments on what can be done today, at a time when popular approval of Congress might be at a low point in recent history.
