McMurtrie Field at Bishop O'Connell was hopping with activity over the weekend, as new families were invited to mingle at the annual Welcome Cookout. More than 500 attendees enjoyed burgers and hotdogs grilled and served by administrators, faculty members and parents. An assortment of cookies and brownies, baked by teachers, staff and PTO members, rounded out the offerings.
Erin O'Malley, dean of student services, called the event a great success: "My favorite part was seeing new students recognizing the names of teachers from their schedules and saying, 'Oh, you're Mr. Edmondson...I have you for History!'"
Attendees were also able to enjoy a variety of classic rock tunes performed on the plaza by Father Thompson and his band, "Teacher's Pet."
On the football field, the fans were treated to a varsity football preview, as the Knights took on Surrattsville High School in a scrimmage. Go Knights!
