Congratulations to the Business Analyst Team of Srijan Bhasin, Alex Socarras, Andrew Elias (in absentia), and Eddie Donnellan who took first place at the University of Virginia's High School Case competition held at the McIntire Business School earlier this week. The event was organized by the University's Enactus project leader Sebastian Kingston (O'Connell class of 2013). The Enactus motto is "Don't just go to class. Make an impact."
Srijan, Alex, and Eddie competed against five other area high schools, presenting a three-pronged marketing approach by suggesting solutions for a declining client base for a local food restaurant, The Pie Guy.
Program participants were first treated to a lecture on entrepreneurship given by UVa Professor David Touve that was followed up by "presenting tips" given by a fourth year business school student. The teams then spent time polishing their presentations before the competition began.
Each school presented their arguments for a panel of five judges, before the the results were announced.
"We had all agreed that no matter the outcome, it was a great experience," said moderator Mrs. Cheri O'Reilly. "Winning was really icing on the cake."
Many thanks also to Mr. William Betthauser and coach Abby O'Reilly ('09) for all their help, too.
