Congratulations to Bishop O'Connell's college counselor, Dan Stabile, Ph.D., who was named as the 2014 recipient of the F. Laird Evans Outstanding Volunteer Award by the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools.
“Dr. Stabile has been a devoted volunteer since 2006, during which time he has successfully guided nearly two dozen schools through the accreditation process,” said Henry G. Cram, Ed.D., president of the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools. “He is a hard working, courageous and dedicated advocate for high quality education and for preparing schools for continued growth and improvement.”
Stabile is the former Director of Navy Schools Overseas and Navy Impact Aid Schools and was the recipient of the 2009 NASA Outstanding Educator Award. Dr. Stabile is currently serving as college counselor at Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia.
He also serves as president of the National Council for the Promotion of the Italian Languages in American Schools. In 2011, he was awarded Commendatore in the Order of The Star of Italy, a title given by the President of Italy to Italians abroad and foreign who have promoted ties with Italy.
“It is my proud honor to accept the F. Laird Evans Outstanding Volunteer Award for my work with the Middle States Association,” said Stabile. “I firmly believe that the Middle States accreditation process is one of the most effective ways for schools – and most importantly students – to grow, develop, and improve with measurable results.”
Presented annually, the award recognizes a dedicated volunteer who has advanced the mission of the Middle States Association to foster continuous school improvement through accreditation so all students receive the highest quality education possible. Volunteers serve on accreditation teams that evaluate schools based on an established set of protocols and standards designed to reflect best practices in education. F. Laird Evans is the former president of the Middles States Commission on Elementary Schools and an ardent supporter of school accreditation.
The Middle States Association will formally present Stabile with the award at its bi-annual meeting in Philadelphia, Pa. on Oct. 2.
