Former deputy CIA director, Michael Morell, stopped by Bishop O'Connell for an after school discussion with student participating in the Global Studies program. After laying out the basic functions of the Central Intelligence Agency, Morell underscored the growing importance of intelligence for today and into the future. He answered student questions about his career and about his perspectives on national security topics and events.

Morell is currently a senior counselor with Beacon Global Strategies and also a senior fellow at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

In his over thirty years at the Agency, he played a central role in the United States’ fight against terrorism, its initiatives to halt the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and its efforts to respond to trends that are altering the international landscape. During his tenure with the CIA, he served as George W. Bush's intelligence briefer before being named deputy director in 2010. Twice he was called upon to fill the role of acting director of the Agency.

Morell holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Akron and a M.A. in Economics from Georgetown University.
